What is actually different about marketing in Sudbury
Sudbury is the place Northeastern Ontario comes to for the things smaller towns cannot supply: specialist medicine, equipment, professional services, anything requiring scale. That makes the real market a region rather than a city, and a radius drawn around the office is the wrong shape for it. People will drive two hours to Sudbury for a service they cannot get in Espanola, and they will search for it long before they set out. If your targeting stops at the municipal boundary you are invisible for most of that journey.
The mining supply and services cluster is the mirror image of the same problem. Those firms sell equipment, engineering and expertise to operations in other provinces and other countries, and for them local search is close to irrelevant. It is genuinely two different marketing problems sharing a postal code, and the first useful conversation is working out which one you have, because nearly every setting follows from the answer.
The population figure argues for both. Sudbury grew 2.8% between the last two censuses against 5.2% nationally, so there is no wave of new local customers coming. Growth has to come from covering more of the region you already serve, or from selling further afield to buyers who care what you know rather than where you are.
Three ways to grow a Sudbury business, run by one accountable person
Same three services everywhere I work. What changes in Sudbury is the map, and in this city the map is the whole argument.
Google Ads Management
In Sudbury that starts with widening the geography to match the region you actually serve, which for most hub businesses here is considerably larger than the campaign currently allows. Then account structure, then cutting spend on searches that were never going to convert. For firms selling outside the north, paid search is usually the wrong first channel and I will say so.
$1,500/month + ad spend
SEO Consulting
Strong here on both sides of the split. Regionally, the competition for northern search terms is thin enough that ranking is realistic in months. Nationally, buyers of technical mining services research carefully before they contact anyone, and what they find is what decides whether you make the list.
$1,200/month
AIO Consulting
Being the business ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews name when someone asks for a supplier in Northern Ontario, or for a specialist in your part of the mining supply chain. The shortlist is short in both cases and almost nobody here has started. Cheapest of the three and one-time.

Where in Sudbury I work
Across Greater Sudbury
I take on clients throughout downtown Sudbury, New Sudbury, Val Caron and Valley East, Lively and Walden, Coniston and Chelmsford. Everything is run remotely over video and email, so where you are makes no difference to the work or the price.

And across Northeastern Ontario
This is the part most Sudbury accounts leave out, and it is usually where the growth is. I work with businesses in North Bay, Timmins, Espanola, Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie and Manitoulin Island on the same terms.

Questions Sudbury businesses ask
Do you have an office in Sudbury?
No. I am based in Toronto and work from home, so there is no Sudbury office and I am not going to imply there is. Everything is run remotely over video and email, which is how I run every account. If you want someone who will drive up and sit in your boardroom, I am the wrong hire and I will say so on the call rather than after you have paid.
How wide should our targeting be?
Wider than you have it, for most Sudbury businesses. If people already drive in from North Bay, Espanola or Manitoulin to buy from you, they should be able to find you before they set off. The exception is anything where you travel to the customer, in which case the radius should match how far you will actually go.
We sell to mines outside Ontario. Is any of this relevant?
The paid side usually is not, and I would rather tell you that than take the fee. Technical buyers do not click ads for equipment worth six figures, they research and shortlist. Being genuinely findable and credible during that research is SEO and AIO work, and it is where I would spend your money.
Is the market big enough to be worth it?
For the regional businesses, yes, because you are competing for a whole region's demand rather than a city's, and the field is thin. For a small local service with no reach outside the city, the honest answer is sometimes that SEO and AIO are worth doing and Google Ads is not.
What does this cost?
Google Ads management is $1,500 a month plus your ad spend. SEO consulting is $1,200 a month. AIO consulting is $1,800 one time. No setup fees and no long contract.
