Google Ads, SEO and AI visibility for businesses across British Columbia

I work with British Columbia business owners, agency owners and professional firms on Google Ads, SEO and AI visibility, remotely, as one accountable person rather than an account team you never meet. British Columbia grew faster than any other province between the last two censuses, and its geography makes provincial campaigns unusually wasteful.

What is actually different about marketing across British Columbia

Geography does something here it does not do anywhere else in Canada. the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, the Okanagan, the Fraser Valley, the Kootenays and northern British Columbia are not just different regions, they are separated by mountains and water, and customers in one of them will not travel to a business in another for anything routine. That is unusually good news for local businesses, because it genuinely limits who you compete with. It is unusually bad news for anyone running one campaign across the whole province, because the Lower Mainland sets the price and everyone else pays it.

The Lower Mainland is also one of the most expensive places in the country to buy attention, and that cost cascades. A business in Kelowna or Kamloops running province-wide targeting is paying Vancouver rates to reach customers who were never going to be reached by a Vancouver-priced click. Splitting the geography is not an optimisation here, it is usually the whole first month of work.

For agency owners and professional firms, the useful consequence is that the smaller British Columbia markets are still genuinely winnable on organic search. Very few businesses in the Okanagan, the Kootenays or the north have published anything that seriously answers a customer's question, and the ones that do tend to hold the position for years.

Three ways to grow a British Columbia business, run by one accountable person

Same three services everywhere I work. What changes in British Columbia is that the map matters more than almost anything else on the account.

Google Ads Management

In British Columbia that begins with the geography, because the Lower Mainland should not be setting the price for the Okanagan or the Island. Then account structure, then cutting spend on searches that were never going to convert. On province-wide accounts this is where most of the savings live.

$1,500/month + ad spend

SEO Consulting

Strongest outside the Lower Mainland, where competition is thin enough that a page which genuinely answers the question can hold the top of the results for years. Inside Vancouver it is a longer and more expensive fight and I will tell you so.

$1,200/month

AIO Consulting

Being the British Columbia business ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews name when someone asks for a recommendation, including the visitors planning a trip here. Cheapest of the three and one-time.

Where in British Columbia I work

British Columbia markets with their own page

Each of these goes into what is actually different about that market. If you sell mainly in one of them, start there rather than here.

Across the province

I take on clients throughout the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, the Okanagan, the Fraser Valley, the Kootenays and northern British Columbia. Everything is run remotely over video and email, so where in the province you are makes no difference to the work or the price. The three hour time difference is real and I schedule around it.

  • the Lower Mainland
  • Vancouver Island
  • the Okanagan
  • the Fraser Valley
  • the Kootenays
  • northern British Columbia

And in the interior and the north

Some of the least competitive search markets in the country are in this half of the province. I work with businesses in Kelowna, Kamloops, Nanaimo, Prince George, Vernon, Cranbrook, Squamish and Penticton on the same terms.

Questions British Columbia businesses ask

Do you have an office in British Columbia?

No. I am based in Toronto and work from home, so there is no British Columbia office and I am not going to imply there is. Everything is run remotely over video and email, which is how I run every account.

We are in the Interior. Are we paying Vancouver prices?

If your campaign targets the whole province, almost certainly yes. The auction is priced by the most competitive part of the geography it covers, so a Kelowna business advertising province-wide funds Vancouver's competition without reaching Vancouver's customers. Splitting the targeting usually pays for itself in the first month.

Does the time difference matter?

Three hours, and it matters for meetings rather than for the work. I take British Columbia calls in your morning, which is my early afternoon. If you need someone reachable late in your day on short notice, say so up front and we will agree what that looks like.

Should a smaller BC business bother with SEO?

In most of this province, yes, and more than in the big cities. Outside the Lower Mainland the competition for organic search is thin enough that being genuinely useful is often sufficient, which is not something I can say about Toronto or Vancouver.

What does this cost?

Google Ads management is $1,500 a month plus your ad spend. SEO consulting is $1,200 a month. AIO consulting is $1,800 one time. No setup fees and no long contract, anywhere in the province.
